3-7-2015 London

3-7-2015 London (Monday).

NHM is not open today so I will work on the MA project in the Pembridge Hall, TV room (which has WiFi). Two tasks:
1. set up the visit to Cambridge Uni Library Westall archive.
2. answer email questions re my GBR fisheries model paper for the first author/Journal editor.

Another rest day but I did manage to download summary GBR fisheries data for the joint publication. I will need to do some more work but at least that is a start.

A short walk in Hyde Park after a small lunch, then back to internet searching for a cost-effective route to Cambridge University Library. I emailed the Library librarian/curator to ensure I could access the William Westall drawings/collection and am waiting on a reply. I realised that until I get a firm date/time then buying train tickets was premature. After investigating both bus and train, I may use a bus-train combination to get me there and back. The bus takes much longer but is cheaper. The train takes almost as long if you factor in getting to the station, and the cost is variable depending on time of travel.

Decided against another Proms concert, had an early dinner (second half of the “Meal for two” deal), watched some TV news then went to my room to work on my journal/Blog. Although no real exertion during this “Lazy-day”, I was weary. It is fairly hot/humid in London, which was uncomfortable but the heavy Jetlag seems to have largely dissipated.

Some of the residents left and a new crop has arrived but a very different set this time. Workers from the local building renovations and a couple that look like ex street-people. So far I have been accused of “stealing hot-water” because I used the boiled water from a communal electric jug. (Who knows but I suspect the army surplus combat shirt probably tells me a lot about where his “head” is; avoid, avoid!). In hindsight it was nice to have a group of friendly retired “Proms” devotees staying in the Hall. It takes all types, but I will have to watch myself now.

As the Banks were open I tested my Cashcard for ATM charges at a number of Banks. The RBS charges "foreign cards" as do just about every other Bank I tried except "Santaner" which does not. I withdrew 50 pounds and then checked both my ATM slip and the Qantas-cash web site. Apparently through Santana I can withdraw cash, fee free. Worth the time and effort.
